The HPE ProLiant DL560 is a revolutionary eighth-generation server that is the first quad-socket in its line of servers. Not only is it compatible with Intel's power-efficient Xeon E5-4600 series processors, but it also has the flexibility to utilize FlexibleLOM (LAN on motherboard) networking ports for 1GbE, 10GbE, and QDR/FDR InfiBand connectivity. Up to four Xeon E5-4600 or E5-4600 v2 processors, with options ranging from 95W to 140W and featuring four, six, or eight cores, can be installed on the HPE DL560 Gen8.
The Xeon E5-4600 v2 processors, meanwhile, provide an increase of up to 50% in cores and cache compared to previous generations, with a 4% utilization rate of CPU resources due to a 50% reduction in virtual machine exits. This server can support a maximum of 48 DIMM sockets with a capacity of up to 1.5TB with the help of 32GB LRDIMM memory modules. HPE's DDR3 SmartMemory modules further improve the performance of this system, as they consume 20% less power than standard memory modules, and have the added benefit of protecting against data loss with HPE's Online Spare memory technology.
The HPE ProLiant DL560 also supports up to five SFF SAS hot plug drive bays, giving users the option of storing up to 6TB of data with 1.2TB drives. It comes with a Smart Array P420i RAID controller and the optional 512MB Flash Backed Write Cache (FBWC) that can provide up to six times better performance with SSDs than the P410i controller used in ProLiant Gen7 servers. SmartDrive carriers also make hard drive monitoring easier, with intuitive icon-based displays that reduce human errors.
