The Dell Poweredge R740 server incorporates integrated cooling fans to draw heat away from the system's processors, expansion cards, and memory modules. The system is designed to hold up to six hot-swappable standard or high performance cooling fans; for single processor systems, only four standard cooling fans are needed. The first and second fan bays are protected with a fan blank. Note that mixing of standard and high performance cooling fans is not supported. The system's management software labels each fan by number for easy identification in case of any issues. Therefore, it's possible to swiftly locate and replace the correct fan by looking up its fan number on the cooling fan assembly.
